01 — CREASE NOTES

Goalies selected in 2026 NHL Draft

Thirty-two goaltenders were selected across seven rounds of the 2026 NHL Draft — the most in a single draft since the NHL adopted the current format back in 2005. From Calgary to Vegas, from the second round all the way to pick 220, NHL teams made a clear statement: they're investing in goaltending depth at a level we haven't seen in a generation.

Here's what stood out:

No goalie went in the first round — that's normal. The position is historically hard to project early. But once they started coming off the board in round two, they didn't stop. Eleven countries were represented. Russia led the way with seven goalies drafted. Czechia and Canada had six each. The United States put four on the board. Slovakia, Belarus, Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Latvia, and Kazakhstan all had at least one.

Six teams liked goaltending so much they drafted two: Boston, Philadelphia, Winnipeg, Toronto, Carolina, and Colorado.

The first goalie taken was Tobias Trejbal, a Czech goaltender out of the USHL's Youngstown Phantoms, who went to Calgary at No. 42 overall. The last was John Parsons, a Providence College product taken by Winnipeg at No. 220 — who had been passed over in two previous drafts before finally hearing his name called.

In between: underdog stories, family hockey legacies, goalies from places that barely register on the hockey map, and a 6-foot-8 kid from Quebec who used to play basketball and became the tallest goalie in the entire class.

We've built individual profiles on all 32 — who they are, where they came from, and what scouts say about their game. Worth bookmarking for anyone raising or coaching a goalie who follows the draft.

02 — GEAR VERDICT

Pure Goalie is running significant markdowns on pro-level gear right now and a few of these are genuinely worth paying attention to — not clearance-bin stuff, current flagship equipment.

Here's what's on sale this week:

Warrior Ritual G7 RTL Leg Pads — Senior
Was $1,899.99 → Now $1,119.97 (41% off)
The G7 RTL is Warrior's top-of-line pad built for a tight butterfly seal and strong rebound control. If your goalie has been eyeing pro-level pads, this is the price point that makes it realistic.

CCM Axis XF Catch Glove — Senior
Was $619.99 → Now $339.97 (45% off)
The Axis XF is one of CCM's best catching gloves. Nearly half off is a real deal on a current-model glove.

03 — THIS WEEK'S FIND

Hand Placement and RVH Recoveries — Dahan Goaltending

This week's pick covers one of the most requested topics we hear from goalie parents trying to understand what coaches are actually teaching: RVH recovery.

The RVH (reverse VH) is a post-sealing technique that's become standard in modern goaltending. The recovery — getting back to square quickly after going into it — is where a lot of younger goalies struggle. Dahan Goaltending breaks it down specifically through hand placement, which is the detail that gets skipped in most generic breakdown videos.

Worth watching with your goalie before their next ice session, especially if they're working on post play this off-season.
